Crochet Time!

So I’ve been back in the crochet mood lately. Basically because I started a new throw blanket for my new apartment and my new color scheme, but then I realized I had an unfinished throw that I was working on last year. It was actually the same pattern as one I made last year. Since that throw was 99% done, I figured it would be poor form to leave it unfinished. Ta-da!greeeeen

So now that I’ve finished that, it’s on to the next project: a neutral throw for my new neutral living room. I picked a new crochet pattern from Lion Brand Yarn that is supposed to emulate the cable patterns in the knitting world. Here’s what it looks like so far:work in progress

Last Five

The Last Five songs I downloaded.

1.  Kiss You by One Direction: So I was all ready to side with The Wanted (even though we all know I am an *NSYNC girl in my heart), because I saw The Wanted’s show on E!. But here’s the problem: One Direction is just so damn catchy sometimes. This is one of those times. It’s a great commuting song, a great workout song, a great playing in Excel at work song. I can’t get enough! One Direction

2. Live It Up by Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull: This right here is a formula that cannot fail. J-Lo + Pitbull= quality dance/workout/fun music. The only word that can describe this song is: Fierce!J Lo

3. They Don’t Know About Us by One Direction: Catchy boy band ballad? Yes please!

4. I’m Out by Ciara feat. Nicki Minaj: I live for this song and this duo! Ciara is a constant on my workout mix, and this song has been a great addition of late. Sometimes Ciara has been hit and miss in the past few years, but I think this is a little more reminiscent of her fabulous sophomore album.Ciara

5. Roar by Katy Perry: Download this song now and play it on repeat. The first time I heard it I was not sold, but I needed some new music so I downloaded it and put it on my workout mix. When it came on during my run on the treadmill (my least favorite cardio machine) I played it about five times in a row and upped by speed. It is super motivational!

Getting the Hang

So as you may or may not know, I recently moved to Northern Virginia to start a new job in the District of Columbia. The move was definitely a big deal to me because even though I’ve lived in Virginia for the past two years, Williamsburg and DC are two different animals.

At this point I’ve been in my new apartment and my new job for about a month and a half, and I felt a tangible change this week. I did a little bit of on site work for my job at different locations in the city, and had some social engagements in some new areas that I haven’t explored. Even though I continually experience new areas, this week it went from an exhausting experience of relying on google maps every five minutes and looking up the metro map several times a day, to recognizing neighborhood names and starting to piece them together on the map in my head.

I definitely have a better sense of place, and I’ve gotten closer to a decent daily routine so the daily adventures are not such an ordeal. I feel like I caught my wind for the moment. I realize I still have a lot more to explore, a lot more to experience and some unresolved moving details to finish up, but I think the wind changed in DC this week, and it’s starting to feel more familiar every day.

What are you up to this weekend? I’m looking forward to a low key weekend of errands, some shopping, and hopefully I’ll get a chance to go see “Lee Daniel’s The Butler.”
