Hits and Misses

I haven’t been doing too much shopping lately because it seems to be too late for winter clothing and the stores are just starting to release their shorts and tee shirts. I’m trying to hold out so I can see the full spring and summer collections before I make decisions. Also, all of my usual haunts are too boring right now. There are a lot of basics, not a lot of statement pieces out there. I’m hoping my luck will improve as the weather gets warmer.

PS- Please note the tropical color scheme below. Can you handle it? Note to self- think about colors other than blue, white, and grey.

Hits

I needed a new white tee, and this one caught my eye in the Loft. It’s actually by Lou & Grey, and it’s a linen blend which gives it a great texture. It’s not the most opaque tee, but I can work with it. I like the fit and the shirttail hem- it’s perfect for the spring and summer.

I’ve been thinking about light wash jeans for a while. These from the Gap caught my eye because I love a high rise, and I like how Gap jeans fit me. They are pretty stretchy but thick enough to give structure rather than being just glorified leggings. I often by jeans from J.Crew, but when I want to take a chance on a different wash, Gap is my go-to for something a little more economical. I have worn them the last three weekends straight.

I’ve also been looking at mules for a while now. I almost got a pair from Chinese Laundry last year, but I never pulled the trigger. I got these by Vince Camuto from QVC. The price was right, and I was being indecisive about whether I wanted a high or low heel, so these were a great middle ground. I will also be wearing these every weekend this spring.

Misses

I’m obsessed with idea of getting a maxi dress but this one from Banana did not fit at all. I made the mistake of reading the reviews after I purchased it, and they all said that it ran several sizes too small. I sized up just in case, because it’s a button up, but that was not enough. I hate when sizing is inconsistent across a brand. The hunt continues…

I’m so ready for warm weather- hence the shorts. These shorts from Athleta looked really cute and comfortable, but the proportions were off for me. The waistband fit perfectly, but apparently my rear end was just too much for them to handle. Oh well. Return.

Have you had any good or bad shopping luck recently?

I Probably Need These, Right?

I’m not trying to spend money on things I don’t need right now. But these are needs, right?

You know I love a white shirt. This is such a cool spin on it from JCrew. Waist ties are so in right now, and I could see wearing this to work with a high waisted pencil skirt or our to dinner with high rise jeans. So chic!

I live for jean shorts in the summer. These from Joe’s Jeans are really fun with the appliqué. They’re trendy but not too trendy. I think you could get a few years out of these without them looking dated. The only problem is that they are north of $100, and I’m not spending that on jean shorts.

Yes! I love a loafer, and a pointy toe. The color makes the above from Nine West a great feminine twist on a masculine style. They would be so great with a basic navy or black outfit at work. They come in other great colors too, and they are less than $100, so they won’t break the bank.

How classic is the above bag from Mark and Graham? My go-to weekend purse style is a hobo, I live for brown leather accessories because they go with everything, and I love a subtle monogram. I still have life in my current grey hobo though, so this almost $300 beauty will have to wait.

This might be redundant on the pink shoes above, but these Vince Camuto’s from Nordstrom are bomb. I go through black flats about every 6-12 months so I’m always on the lookout for my next pair. The right pair can be hard to find. These come in a couple other great colors, and I think I’m going to keep an eye on them in case they go on sale soon. Now I just need a classic but distinctive black pump…

I am obsessed with the idea of camo. I don’t have that much came right now, but I wish I did. This jacket from the Gap is such a perfect option. I wear a lot of neutrals on the weekends, so this jacket is a great way to add a little style to my tee shirt and jeans. Guess what. This one is in the mail, I can’t wait to get it!

What are you optimistically putting in your carts right now?

Spring Shopping!

So I’m not sure about where you live, but winter didn’t really happen in DC this year. I’m glad I didn’t go overboard on the sweater shopping…

I’m itching to start shopping for spring and first on my list a transitional shoe for the weekends that can go from spring through fall. I have my eye on a tan shoe with a decent chunky heel in the bootie/slide/wedge realm. I want something that can work with jeans but not too out of place with shorts.

Which ones should I get?

Sadie Dishes- Spring Shopping

This is by 1.State and goes for $138. I like the perforated texture, the heel is perfect at 3 inches. I’m not sure if the color is too blush rather than tan. Would that limit it’s versatility?

This one by Steve Madden is another solid option at $109. The heel is 3.5 inches which is good but borderline high for a casual weekend heel. I’m also not sure how the peep toe and the open back will work for early spring and late fall. That said, I think it will work really will for summer styles.

I really like this shoe by Vince Camuto at $149. I think the style is really cool, and it’s a great color. The cons are that the heel is on the higher side at 4 inches, which, again, is do-able but high for a casual shoe. Also the price tag is one the higher end in comparison to the other options.

These Sam Edelman’s are really cute on sale at $77. I think they’re really cool, but I wonder if the mule style will be as transitional as some of the other styles, and I don’t know if the color is perfect.

This Dolce Vita slide goes for $129. I really like the style, but, again, I’m not sure if it’s three seasons. I like the color and the perforated texture though.

So the question is- which will be my Goldilocks option? What do you think?
