Summer Trends

Am I alone in not being thrilled with the current trends? 90’s fashion is strong right now, and I’m not very interested in it. I find the 90’s trends rather dull and difficult to pull off. The skimpy straps, high waist trousers, and flimsy fabrics can be rather unforgiving. Let’s figure out what trends are worth the investment this season.

Big Buttons

Loft Dress with Buttons

I’m seeing this look everywhere and I don’t love it. It looks really juvenile and kind of boring to me. This one above from the Loft is ubiquitous this season. Sometimes it’s a sun dress look, and other times it’s more of a canvas, safari vibe. Either way, a woven dress with buttons does not sound comfortable for anyone with any curves. Maybe I’m better off trying a skirt version.

Rainbow Stripes

I’ve seen rainbows on swimsuits, jumpsuits, dresses, and shorts, just to name a few. I do find it a little bit clownish, but if you get the right palette, it can also be really fun and pretty. There are some really fresh takes on the rainbow look. It’s an easy way to make a fun statement.

Muted Warm Colors

Anthropologie Jumpsuit

One of the primary color schemes this season is a burnt orange, marigold yellow, orange-red vibe with a side of olive green. I don’t wear many warm colors because my skin is too fair, so I will probably pass on this trend, but I’m here for olive all day long.

Big Florals

Loft Floral Pants

Last year was all about the micro florals, but this year we’re going big! I love a statement print, and the floral prints out there are the perfect statement for any outfit. I think a floral print is so timeless but fresh at the same time. I haven’t gotten any yet, but I will hopefully be riding this wave.

That’s my summer trend round up! What new looks are you trying this season?

Hits and Misses

It’s finally time to refresh the warm weather clothing! I took a trip to the west coast specifically to get my wardrobe in order. There was a lot of trial and error. Here are some of my results.

Hits

Banana Republic Romper

We know I love a romper. This one from Banana Republic is a really drapey, soft fabric. I like that it’s a jersey because some of the woven rompers out there can look awkward around the mid-section to crotch area. The jersey makes it a lot more wearable. I think this will be great for weekend outings this summer.

Banana Republic Wide Leg Crops

I love a linen look. I tried on these pants in white and then ended up ordering them in this chambray color with a matching top. Again from Banana Republic, they are very comfortable and the perfect combination of trendy and timeless.

Anthropologie Jumpsuit

This jumpsuit has everything. All of the colors. I tried it on in Anthropologie when I was on the west coast and ordered it when it went on sale. I think it’s the perfect statement piece to stand out every once in a while. I also think rainbow is a big trend right now. Plus it’s very flowy and comfortable.

Misses

Loft Romper

This is so sad for me. I saw this online at the Loft and loved it, but when I got it in the mail it was not as cute. I don’t love the fabric, and the size was off for me. Maybe if I size up it will be better but I think it might be too big if I size up. I shall be returning it.

Anthropology Pink Dress

I also wanted to like this dress from Anthropologie but I cannot wear this color pink. It just didn’t do it for me. Plus it is a maze to get into. I tried it on and left it in the dressing room.

Victoria Secret Side Tie Bottom

I ordered a basic side tie bikini bottom from Victoria’s Secret and it was way too small! I should have read the reviews because they all confirmed this issue. You live and you learn! Return.
