Hop on the Jamberry Train

This weekend I am throwing a Jamberry party.  Some of you who are like me and aren’t always up on the latest at-home party services might not be sure what that might entail.  Well it’s an experience you won’t forget.  I attended my first Jamberry party a few weeks ago when I was asked by my friend Allison to attend her launch party.  This means that she was having a party to announce her new endeavor as a Jamberry sales rep.  I fell in love with the product as much as she did (though I won’t become a sales rep anytime soon…I have enough hobbies already).  Let me get right down to it!

As you can see in the manicure I did yesterday, the index finger and the fourth finger have the Jamberry product.  The Jamberry is a nail applique that lasts about two weeks when applied correctly.  It’s basically a long-lasting nail sticker.  They come in sheets for $15.50 and you can get a whole lot of bang for your buck out of them.  It’s way cheaper than going to the salon.  The application process involves the use of your hair dryer (for heating up the Jamberry in order to form it to your finger) and your basic manicure set.  I like to use the Jamberries as accents but you are welcome to do all your nails at once.  I prefer to mix it up with my own collection of polishes to give it a more eclectic look.  Plus you can get more manicures out of your Jamberry sheet.  Just call me Bargain Betty.  You can check them out and place your order here.  The deadline is Friday at midnight!  Get your Jamberry on!

SAG Awards Best and Worst

The SAG awards is always an interesting fashion event because there is usually a little more creativity than the Golden Globes or the Academy Awards, but this year there were some really chic simple gowns. I’m not sure if this is valid, but I felt like there was some star power missing from the show. And by star power I mainly mean Benedict Cumberbatch, the only star who matters (I also didn’t see Mark Ruffalo, Kate Hudson, Tina Fey, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, or Channing Tatum). I will forgive him though because his fiance is expecting, so maybe they have to pick their moments this year. (Speaking of pregnant: Is Amy Poehler pregnant? I can’t tell, and it’s always awkward to ask… I didn’t even know she had a boyfriend.)

My Best:

Felicity Jones

Felicity Jones: This is a perfect combination of interesting and understated. I love the architectural detail and the perfect fit. She looks flawless, timeless, glamorous, elegant…

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon: Another chic simple gown. Reese always stays pretty simple, but it usually looks great, and this was no exception. The back was interesting as well. She’s now a regular on my best list!

Emmy Rossum

Emmy Rossum: I thought this was a great combination of pretty, interesting, flattering, and fashionable. I love a lace motif, and this is a great spin on the standard lace overlay dress. I’m not thrilled with the middle part bangs, but you can’t win ’em all.

My Worst:

Rashida Jones

Rashida Jones: This is just not doing it for me. The hair and makeup is nice and the silhouette is not hideous but I don’t really get the print and trim. It looks like it could be the makings of a great apron, but it doesn’t seem like a formal enough print/color for the red carpet.

Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep: This kills me a little because who would want to be negative about Meryl. The problem is that I could wear this dress to work, and frankly, it wouldn’t be one of my “dressy” days. She was a nominee! She pretty much does this for every awards show, I would love to see her do a gown and wear something other than black. Also, would it kill you to wear a necklace with that v-neck?

Claire Danes

Claire Danes: I don’t get it. The fabric looks like drapes, and the belt kills it. It’s baggy and not particularly flattering. I know Ms. Danes likes to be fashion forward in a creative way, but better luck next time. I will say, though, hair and makeup is pretty great.

Awards season 2015: here we go!

First of all, I have not seen too many movies this year for whatever reason, but I did see The Imitation Game on Christmas day and it is the best. I think it should win every award from now on! I am a full fledged Cumberbitch now!

Now lets talk about clothes. There was a lot of white on the red carpet, and a lot of rather simple dresses. Lots of glamorous mermaid and column silhouettes rather than more fashion forward unique choices. It seemed relatively understated overall, but very elegant. A lot of pretty and sexy dresses, but not many statement fashion pieces. A good steady start to Awards season.

My Best:

Amy Adams

Amy Adams: At first I thought this was a little boring, but frankly it’s quite impeccable. Usually she chooses a bolder color, so I was surprised she went for a pastel blue. The draping and the fit couldn’t be better. If it wasn’t perfect I think it would fall in the realm of bridesmaid dress, but Amy did it right!

Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain: She always cracks me up because she seems like such a sweet, understated person during the red carpet interviews, but she really serves up the drama with her dress every single time. Not a groundbreaking silhouette but it’s definitely working for her and I love a metallic!

Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick: Anna is a Kate Spade spokesperson, and this gown seems very Kate Spade-ish to me so it makes sense. I like that it’s classic but has some interest with the beading. It works very well for her.

Reese

Reese Witherspoon: This is very plain but I think it’s just done very well. There were several stars that did similar looks, but the metallic kicks it up a notch. I don’t know that Reese is usually this sparkly so I was happy to see her amp it up a little. (The one thing that would have pushed it up one more notch would be some big sapphire statement pieces to add some interest)

My Worst:

Rosamund Pike

Rosamund Pike: The concept of the dress is not terrible. I find it ill-fitting and very unflattering on her. It seems like the straps are two inches too long.

Amanda Peet

Amanda Peet: She usually leans towards a retro look (somewhere from 1920’s-1940’s), so this dress does not surprise me for her. I wish it was a little less blah. If the waist was defined with a wide band and it bloused out a little above the natural waist, it might be a little more flattering. With a little nip and a tuck it would be so much better, it’s just too much blousey material.

Taylor Schilling

Taylor Schilling: The dress is not a bad dress, but the whole look seems way too severe and she does not look her best. I think it’s the middle part, strong eye brows, and red lips. It’s a little much.

George Clooney, Amal Clooney

Amal Clooney: Could this be more of a snooze? I think she was trying to be subtle so she wouldn’t steal George’s thunder, but I was very disappointed.
