Wonderful Weekend

This weekend Karla came to visit. We had an absolute blast! The weekend started out with a bang on Friday night when we traveled to Atlantic City to Harrah’s Resort. We started the night out at Dos Caminos. I had wanted to try this restaurant ever since I saw the Kardashians eating there on their show. I know that those ladies know good food when they see it. You can tell by the junk in their trunk. I had the pescado tacos which were unbelievably delicious. We also ordered guacamole for the table which is an absolute must-have with your complimentary tortilla chips and trio of salsas. I had a blood orange mojito which was a delightful treat for the tastebuds and of course for getting your buzz-on.

We continued the night by going to a Little Big Town concert. This group is phenomenal and their harmonies are out of this world. They sound almost exactly as they do on their record. They are simply amazing and I would definitely be happy to go see them on their next tour. One of my favorite parts of the night was when they did the Scattered, Smothered, and Covered section where they covered the following songs: Grenade, Moves Like Jagger, Born This Way and Some Nights. It really showed their true talent and artistry. Check out this video clip from You Tube (I can’t figure out how to upload my own).  Kasey Musgraves opened for Little Big Town and she was fantastic as well. She is a talented singer/songwriter and she write some songs for the new show Nashville, an example being Undermine. My favorite song of the night from Kasey was It Is What It Is, but her most well known single is Merry Go Round.

On Saturday, Karla and I went to see Safe Haven. I read the book so I knew what was going to happen. Josh Duhamel is always nice to look at. THen we went to a local watering hole for some libations.

On Sunday, we rounded out the weekend by planning our trip to San Francisco. We have scheduled a trip to the wine country, Muir Woods, Alcatraz, a walking tour of Chinatown, and we purchased our CitiPass. Any suggestions for our trip are welcome. We were quite hungry after all this planning. Luckily, Karla brought me some Indian food to try. It was my first tasting of Indian food and I’d say it was a success. We had chicken tikka masala. I had so much fun this weekend and I have next weekend to look forward to as well 😉

In My Own Little Corner

This weekend I broke what has been kind of a Broadway draught for me.  My mom and I went to see the new production of Cinderella!  It’s not the Disney version, but rather the Rodgers and Hammerstein version that has only been shown as a TV movie.Great White Way

You know it, it’s the version that was most recently re-made with Brandy and Whitney Houston in 1997.  There are some great songs like “Ten Minutes Ago” and the “Stepsister’s Lament.”

It was a very enjoyable girly affair.  Definitely a show to see on a girl’s night, unless for some reason, your Prince Charming is willing to make the trip.  I thought overall the actors were good and they had nice voices. The costumes were elaborate, but I sort of wished they made a more artistic decision with all of the big dresses and done something a little more interesting.  Like do all the chorus girls in shades of the same color, rather than have one in each color of the rainbow.  I felt like they made some safer choices when it came to costumes and sets, which were fine, but they could have re-invented it in a better way.

The lead actress really looked like she walked out of Disney world.  She even had one dress that was very reminiscent of Belle’s gold dress from Beauty and the Beast.  The prince seemed a little nerdy at first, but he grew on me.  By the end, I felt like I wanted to be his Cinderella.

Hearing the songs again was very nostalgic, but they added a couple new ones that were not as great as the originals.  They also added a little political sub plot about helping the poor, and voting for a Prime Minister to advise the King. That part wasn’t my favorite. I felt like they tacked it on to beef up the plot, but I just want to see pretty dresses and balls and princes.

Something new to add to the wall!

All in all a festive choice for a girl’s night out! Here’s to a lot more Broadway in my life this year!

Have you seen any good Broadway shows lately?

Five Things

I’ve downloaded on iTunes in the last month.

1. This Kiss by Carly Rae Jepsen

This song is upbeat, fun, and extremely catchy.  Imagine that, Carly Rae Jepsen coming up with a cathy tune…

2. Feel Again by OneRepublic

This song caught me by surprise.  It’s got just of rhythmic pulsing quality.  I love the positive nature of the lyrics.  It always motivates me when I’m out for a run!

3. Beauty and a Beat by Justin Bieber feat. Nicki Minaj

The Biebs is hit and miss with me, but if he pairs up with Nicki Minaj, I’m in.  This is another fun song that keeps my workout mix fresh.

4. Anything Could Happen by Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding is a little more alternative than my typical playlist, but I happen to love every single she puts outs.  It’s just so catchy but soothing at the same time.

5. Sail by AWOLNATION

I actually heard this song in my pilates class the other day.  I immediately googled it with the lyrics I remembered and bought it.  It definitely adds a little intensity to my playlist.

Usually I download a lot more rap and hip hop, but recently I’ve really been digging some of these songs like Feel Again, Anything Could Happen, and Sail that have a whole different vibe to them.  I’m not 100% sure what genre it would be.  I guess alternative on the verge of a euro techno kind of thing.  Whatever it is, these are my jams at the moment.

PS- I’ve been hanging out in PA during my winter break from school.  I’m basically living among hundreds of deer, many of whom are not shy at all about having breakfast in our back yard as I drink my morning smoothie in the kitchen.  My view from the kitchen window every morning:by all means, help yourself
