Foundation for Summer

And now for something real- we’re going to talk about some of the summer necessities for women who are fortunate enough to be well endowed. I think the summer poses some unique challenges because there are strappy or strapless outfits, a lot of active outdoor activities, and, of course, it’s swimsuit season.

First, we need a new strapless bra for that bridesmaid dress, or your strapless maxi. I recently got this one from Wacoal. It hits all my criteria for a strapless: 1. it stays up, 2. it’s simple and low profile, 3. it has a large range of sizes.

Bralettes seem to be all the rage right now. So that’s cute for the 17 year olds, but for the rest of us that need a little more support… I really like this front close unlined bra from VS. It’s really lightweight, it goes up to DDD, and it’s low profile for those days you don’t want the scaffolding and padding. Plus the straps can cross in the back, so you can wear it with halters or racerbacks.

This is a game changer for me. I typically have to layer two sports bras when I go for a run, and this is the only sports bra I’ve ever worn that I can wear by itself! It’s kind of a bitch to get into, but I like that it doesn’t have an underwire because those sports bras make me feel like I’m running in an uncomfortable push up bra. At $60, I’m not replacing all my sports bras just yet, but between this option, and another winner for mid-impact, I’m rethinking some life choices…

When it comes to swim suits, it’s all about the sizing and quality of the garment. Freya is one of my go-to brands because they usually put out a few cool options every year that are very true to their bra sizing. I also like VS and Becca suits for their styles and sizing.

Off the Shoulder- So Hot Right Now

I can’t get enough of the off the shoulder look right now. I haven’t actually purchased an off the shoulder blouse or dress yet, but I’m thinking very hard about it.

Sadie Dishes- Off the Shoulder

This one from the Gap would work so well with all of my blue and white shorts and amazing with white jeans. Not bad at $49, but Gap is constantly on sale.

This is another cute blue and white option from Boden. It’s a little pricier at $74.50.

This is just a ray of sunshine from JCrew. I little pricier at $88, but you could probably catch it on sale.

If you’re thinking you need a slimmer fit option because boxy shirts are not for you- I’m with you. Enter a necessary spin on a basic tee from Anthro for $39.95.

This dress from the Loft is super cute, and it would be great for a beach weekend either as a cover up or a dinner time option. Again, $98, but regularly on sale. And if you want off the shoulder chambray- look no further. This straightforward silhouette is all over the usual haunts this season.

I think we definitely need this number from Anthro. This has summer wedding or bridal shower written all over it. It’s a little bit of an investment at $324.

And ending on a sweeter note, this is a more romantic take on the trend from Anthro. It’s perfect for an open air salsa or swing dance lesson in the park this Summer. At $158, it might be worth a little splurge.

New Things at Lands’ End

Lands’ End likes to email me about every day to tell me about their sales and new things. I don’t buy too much from Lands’ End, but I like to keep an eye on it. Starting about a month ago they started hyping a new collection that was coming soon. It was a little mysterious because they gave no release date, and they just had a couple sample pictures of the new line.

Turns out they revamped and relaunched their Canvas line which is a slightly younger, more fashion forward line that they’ve had on and off for the last few years. It used to be more collegiate/preppy but they’re definitely rebranding. I don’t think it’s all quite my style but I was taken aback by some of the choices they made. There are fashionable jumpsuits, crop tops, and even open back dresses. It’s not the Lands’ End you used to know.

I love the fresh and simple silhouettes, the clean basics, and all the black and white options. I’m not so keen on the primary color, color scheme on several items, and the juvenile star print on several items. I’m hope the next round of color and prints are more up my ally. The price point seems to be higher than the standard Lands End stuff, and basically on par with the Ann Taylor’s of the world. I’m hoping these items aren’t restricted from the regular Lands’ End sales.

I think this model just has the one pose.

Word to the wise- I find Lands’ End clothing to run large, but I think this Canvas line is closer to the Bananas, Ann Taylors, and Anthros of the world, so don’t feel the need to size down if you usually do.
