Atlantic City’s Newest Gem: The Revel

Last Tuesday, I had the opportunity of checking out the Revel in Atlantic City.  Here’s a tip if you plan on checking out this new destination…plan on staying at another casino and take advantage of the cheaper room rates.  I happened to have a comped room at Harrah’s which allowed me to save money on the room and gamble it away instead.  I took a taxi over to Revel so I could take advantage of the complimentary drinks while playing the slots and table games.

When walking in the door of the Revel, here’s what you see.

This crazy escalator is only the first set of three escalators spanning the floors of entertainment that await you.  The first floor is the casino floor as seen in the picture below.
There are extravagant light fixtures and furniture everywhere.  This is the preview to the grand opening over Memorial Day weekend so not everything is open and fully functioning.  There is a band that performs every night off to the side of the casino in what I’d like to call a mini auditorium.  I am looking forward to going to the burlesque club in the fall.  It was not open when I was there last week but the sign said that it was opening over Easter weekend.  If it is anything like what I’ve seen so far, I’m sure it is every bit as extravagant as the lounge in the movie Burlesque.  Who knows? Maybe Christina will perform there some day.
Those are the bathrooms!  It’s so pretty I had to take a picture.
Beyonce is performing three nights over Memorial Day weekend for the grand opening.  The tickets start at $95 and go up to $500.  Better save up if you plan on attending that concert.  I think I’ll just wait until September and take advantage of the off-season…Sorry Sasha Fierce!

You gotta know when to fold ’em!

For the past two weeks, I have been busy attending trade shows researching new products for the 2012 season.  Yesterday I went to the US Food show…the biggest and baddest food show of the season.  This company goes all out to make their customers feel appreciated.  Not only do you get a chance to taste-test an overwhelming amount of products but you are comped a stay at one of the participating casinos.  This year I was able to stay at Caesar’s.  Not only do you get a comped room, but you get to attend a three-hour cocktail party at the House of Blues.  This is no ordinary cocktail party.  It is three hours of an open bar with buttered hors devours and a great cover band.

Now wait just a second, the night was not over after the House of Blues party.  The gang and I hit up the craps table til the wee hours of the morning.  Here’s a tip that I passed onto someone last night, always play the PASS line (thank you Kylie).  For a small buy-in of ten dollars, you are able to stand around the table and wait to see your money multiply.  For the first time last night I was able to throw the dice on the table.  What an exhilarating feeling as everyone waits to see what you roll!  Though you might crap out the first time without doubling up, just hang in there and see what the next roller throws.  Last night I was able to turn $10 into $80.  The key is to knowing when the going is good and to back out.  My friend made the mistake of continuing to play for another couple of hours and lost everything.  You gotta know when to fold ’em!

Atlantic City, An Adult Wonderland

Yesterday I took a trip to AC with my mom.  Since I only live about 25 minutes from this destination, it is a place I go to more often than most.  I have celebrated 21st birthdays, college graduation, being a bachelorette (I’ll give a shout out to my happily married friends Lauren, Mimi, and Kylie), and of course any other reason you can think of as a reasonable excuse to blow money.  A casino is an easy way to remove yourself from your life momentarily and pretend that you are the princess of Monaco for a day.  You can dress yourself to the nines and be anyone you want to be and no one will ask questions.

I have had so many short lived romances in Atlantic City and know many other people who have as well.  In fact, one of my guy friends met a Russian princess while there and fell in love with her for the night.  In reality we all know that she was not a Russian princess, but no one was going to argue that point after shooting back three Lemon Drops.  Personally, I took a liking to who turned out to be a married man at my friend’s bachelorette party.  At the time, we were in an Irish bar with extremely dim lighting and a very fun band.  Before I knew it, he had turned me around and started making out with me.  He dragged me out of the bar, at which point, my friend Steph noticed that he was quite unattractive and that he had a wedding band on.  I guess I had my beer goggles on by that time of the night…Oops!

These are memories I will always look back on with a smile.  What I really want Atlantic City to give me at some point of my life is a truly romantic weekend that I can look back on with butterflies in my stomach.  My ultimate dream date is to go to Atlantic City with my main squeeze (I may not have one yet but I’m working on it).  We’ll go for a nice dinner at some fancy restaurant I have never been to before where we can drink wine and have mind-blowing conversations.  Then he’ll whisk me off to the casino floor, where he will act as my personal guide to the gambling world.  After the night is through, he we will ride the elevator to our room in anticipation of another mind-blowing experience 🙂

Do you think this is asking too much from a man?  I certainly hope not because the man who sweeps me off my feet is the one I am going to want to spend the rest of my life with.  I can tell you with certainty that I know I haven’t met him yet 😉
