Last Five

The last five songs I’ve downloaded from iTunes are a mix of old and new stuff. Since I’ve recently joined a new gym near my new apartment, I’ve been getting back into spinning (I have found in my travels that the closer a gym is to a metropolitan area, the more intense and better the spin classes are). I heard most of these songs in some recent classes and it reminded me how much I liked them.

1. What Hurts the Most by Cascada. I know. This is Rascal Flatts cover. I love Rascal Flatts but this version is way more workout appropriate, and I love Cascada as well. It definitely gets me moving during cardio sessions.

2. Play Hard by David Guetta (feat. Ne-Yo & Akon). This song is my anthem right now. I heard it on a commercial for headphones about a month ago, liked it, and then I heard it as part of a mash up in spin class and realized I needed to own it. I play it during my workouts, during my commute, while I’m getting dressed in the morning… It is very versatile and very uplifting.

3. #Beautiful by Mariah Carey (feat. Miguel). The reason for this is Mariah Carey. Period. End of story. She has yet to let me down.

4. I Need Your Love by Calvin Harris (feat. Ellie Goulding). Apparently Ellie Goulding can do no wrong lately because this song is fantastic as usual. She has such a unique, delicate voice that fits so well with the whole vibe of the song.

5. Wake Me Up by Avicii. I’m going to go ahead and say I’ve never heard of this guy before (or band, whatever it is). I heard the song on the radio and ran across it while I was browsing iTunes the other day. It’s a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll which is what I like about it. It has a certain intensity that is interesting. It’s definitely on my workout playlist.

Bonus song: Get the Girl Back by Hanson. Go download this now. It’s everything Hanson is supposed to be: catchy, fun, infectious… These guys are quietly putting out some good songs these days and I’ve downloaded more than one in the past couple years. That’s right, I said it. I listen to Hanson. And you should too!

I graduated middle school in 1999, ok? Hanson for life!

Five Things

I’ve downloaded on iTunes in the last month.

1. This Kiss by Carly Rae Jepsen

This song is upbeat, fun, and extremely catchy.  Imagine that, Carly Rae Jepsen coming up with a cathy tune…

2. Feel Again by OneRepublic

This song caught me by surprise.  It’s got just of rhythmic pulsing quality.  I love the positive nature of the lyrics.  It always motivates me when I’m out for a run!

3. Beauty and a Beat by Justin Bieber feat. Nicki Minaj

The Biebs is hit and miss with me, but if he pairs up with Nicki Minaj, I’m in.  This is another fun song that keeps my workout mix fresh.

4. Anything Could Happen by Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding is a little more alternative than my typical playlist, but I happen to love every single she puts outs.  It’s just so catchy but soothing at the same time.

5. Sail by AWOLNATION

I actually heard this song in my pilates class the other day.  I immediately googled it with the lyrics I remembered and bought it.  It definitely adds a little intensity to my playlist.

Usually I download a lot more rap and hip hop, but recently I’ve really been digging some of these songs like Feel Again, Anything Could Happen, and Sail that have a whole different vibe to them.  I’m not 100% sure what genre it would be.  I guess alternative on the verge of a euro techno kind of thing.  Whatever it is, these are my jams at the moment.

PS- I’ve been hanging out in PA during my winter break from school.  I’m basically living among hundreds of deer, many of whom are not shy at all about having breakfast in our back yard as I drink my morning smoothie in the kitchen.  My view from the kitchen window every morning:by all means, help yourself

Anything Could Happen

I just want to reiterate how much Sadie and I love our new theme song for this coming year.  I must say that Ellie Goulding says it the best when she sings that “anything could happen.”  The first time I heard this song was actually on the x-factor when Fifth Harmony sang it.  It was an incredibly delightful performance.  You can’t help but smile when you see the words put into action.  Check it out here.

Sadie and I heard it  on our way over to our New Year’s festivities and I took it as a sign.  Maybe this year there are going to be some major changes in our lives.  I’m not exactly sure what is in store for the both of us but I can only hope that it involves positivity and fearlessness.  We are two young women who need to live life as if its our last day.  That means we need to grab hold of life’s moments and create our own adventures.  We need to open our eyes to the life that surrounds us and take risks when we see possible opportunities that are reaching toward us.

One of my goals for this year is to see the world and all it has to offer.  So far this year, I already have a trip to Boston and San Francisco planned.  Just yesterday, I was told that I could possibly be taken on a trip to Paris for the opening of a new restaurant.  That’s not yet a definite, but I will keep you updated.  Start enjoying 2013 everyone!  The year will go by way too fast!
