Back in Action- Fall Trends

I haven’t been very chatty lately, but it’s time to change that because fall is the best! Since August is my birthday month, I take a month or two to recover from my YOLO spending in August. I have not been shopping much lately. I am, however, keeping my eyes open to see what’s new, and figure out what I’m missing in my closet.

Let’s start at the top with blouses. Ever since the explosion of crazy sleeves and ruffles a couple years ago, I think the options have increased and some how have become a little more manageable. There are so many options these days, that unique is the new normal when it comes to blouses.

Wrap Tops

This is a hold over trend from previous seasons that has really blown up. Several retailers such as JCrew and Ann Taylor have a wrap top silhouette that they sell in multiple fabrics and colors. Depending on where the tie hits on my torso, it’s not always a great option for my body type, but I think it’s a great no-tuck look when you have pants that require that. It would also be great to pair with a pencil skirt at work.

Mock Neck with a Front Yoke

I love a turtleneck, but mock necks are all the rage right now. I’ve seen this style consistently where there’s a front yoke or placard that has some pin-tucking or lace designs. It’s a little bit- Little House on the Prairie, but I like the feminine detail. It brings the eyes up to the collar bone rather than the waist with the wrap top.

Tie Necks

This is one of my favorite trends. I think it’s a really sophisticated look for work, that looks great with anything. It works with blazers, cardigans, pants, skirts, and even dresses. I love layering a tie neck top under a sleeveless dress. It’s automatic sleeves so I don’t have to wear a cardigan or blazer. It just adds more options to the whole wardrobe.

Boat Neck with Cuffs

Ok, this seems vague, but if you go to any retailer, they have this exact silhouette in many colors and patterns. It’s an easy, polished look for work that you can tuck into trousers or a skirt. It’s basically the opposite of all the other frillier trends going on right now, but it’s a great balance when you want to wear your fancy pants!

Tie Cuffs

I’ve started seeing both sweaters and blouses with ties at the cuffs.  Disclaimer- if you’re at all clumsy at the dinner table, I would avoid this look on first dates. The ties might end up getting dragged into your soup. Proceed at your own risk. Other than that, go for it.

What blouses are you trying out this fall?
