Sheets and Towels

Now that I’ve got my living room in order, and I’m over the hump of the holidays, it’s time to shape up my bathroom and bedroom. My current sheets and towels have seen many an apartment in the last six or seven years. And while they have served me well, I think I’m ready for something fresh, and with possibly a few less bleach stains (I love a strong bathroom cleaner).

My go to places for sheets and towels are usually Pottery Barn and The Company Store but I’m keeping my eyes open for other options as well. I would typically just run down to Bed Bath & Beyond, but I have this problem, I need my linens monogrammed…

While I typically love a crazy, multi-color, patterned duvet cover, and plain sheets, I’m thinking about picking a more zen duvet cover this time around. Here are some contenders so far (first 3 from Pottery Barn, last one from West Elm):

With towels I’m thinking about a dark dusty blue, somewhere between navy blue and royal blue, with a white monogram of course. Pottery Barn calls it Blue Harbor (of course my color isn’t in the picture, but it’s outlined in the swatches below):

Flea Market Finds

I am constantly seeking out our local thrift shops and church flea markets for some deals on vintage items.  I usually am always able to scoop up some great finds.  You would be surprised that someone’s junk can be someone else’s treasure.  From experience, I know that many elderly people are often cleaning out their closets or their entire houses in order to downsize.  In fact, that is exactly what my parents have been doing this winter to prepare for their yard sale in the spring.  Their reasoning is that they don’t need so much stuff anymore and that someone else can use it.  Of course, their treasures have to pass through me before it makes it to the yard sale box.  Check out what I have recently acquired at a local church flea market at Our Lady of Sorrows in Linwood, NJ.

This grated cheese man matches a utensil holder I found last year. I got him for $12. This is a hard piece to acquire.

I got this children’s play set for $15. This is only a part of a complete set but it was well worth it as it made a great addition to the decor above my kitchen cabinets.

 

Eat, Pray, Love

Over the holidays, Sadie and I went to Frenchtown with our Chi O faves and made sure to go to Elizabeth Gilbert’s inspired store and eatery for Sunday brunch. I must say that the trip was a success. I thoroughly enjoyed shopping at Two Buttons while waiting to be seated at the Lovin’ Oven. After 45 minutes and the purchase of a signed copy of “Home on the Range”, we sat down to a satisfying meal. I was completely satisfied with their interpretation of sausage gravy and biscuits. They put the sausage gravy over a bed of garlic sauteed kale with a sweet potato biscuit on the side. On the way out, I noticed that they got a write up for the Best Thing I Ever Ate on the Food network for their chocolate caramel tarte. I guess I know what I will have to try next time! Check this place out next time you are in the area. There is usually a bit of a wait, but it’s well worth it.  I even found some inspiration for a new display case at the bakery.
