New to Me

Here are a few recent discoveries that I’ve made that might not really be new, but they’re new to me!

1. The TV show Parenthood on NBC. This show definitely flies below the radar. It’s not a scandalous reality show, trendy drama, or hilarious sitcom. It came on right after another show I was watching a few weeks ago, and I’ve started to get hooked. It has plenty of big stars: Lauren Graham, Ray Romano, Dax Shepard, etc, which sometimes backfires, but all the characters are so down to earth in this show, that all the ensemble cast of big names really works.

2. Almond butter. I realize that all the fitness and healthy lifestyle bloggers have been putting almond butter and other exotic nut butters in their oatmeal for years now, but I’m new on the bandwagon. I’m kind of obsessed with Justin’s brand almond butter with maple syrup. I love it in oatmeal, or with carrots as an afternoon snack.

3. Toms shoes. I needed a pair of commuting shoes that fit between Ugg and Rainbow seasons. Something for the 40-60 degree days in the spring and the fall. I like to wear different shoes while I’m commuting so I can be comfortable and preserve my work shoes a little longer. Usually Toms are about $50, but of course the ones that caught my eye were about twice as expensive. While I don’t think they’re supper supportive walking shoes, they’ve been great for commuting and weekend errands so far!

4. Squeegees! I enjoy a clean house. I think I’ve mentioned that before. The main window in my living room is three sliding doors that lead out to my balcony, and I noticed they were getting dingy. I attempted to clean them with Windex and a paper towel, and they came out very streaky. Not OK. So the other day, when I was cruising the cleaning aisle in Target, the squeegees caught my eye. The rest is mirror and window cleaning history.

Squeaky clean!

5. The TV show Southern Charm on Bravo. This one is new to me and everyone else because it just premiered a few weeks ago. It’s similar to some of Bravo’s other recent reality show about 20, 30, and 40 somethings living the good life in a fun city (i.e. Shahs of Sunset, 100 Days of Summer, etc.). This one is about a bunch of well-off friends in Charleston, SC. It’s such a beautiful change of scenery from the standard LA or NYC, and I’m already totally hooked. Bravo gets me every time!

What I’m Watching

The fall is always a great season for TV, and here are a few shows I’ve gotten hooked on this year!

The New Atlanta: If there is a new show on Bravo, I watch it. I have been a little selective with Housewives because I think those have become pretty boring and formulaic (let’s have a knock down, drag out fight every week because you looked at me funny!). But, anyway, The New Atlanta got me hooked, surprise, surprise. It’s very similar to Shahs of Sunset and Most Eligible Dallas, because it’s a similar format to Housewives, but with 20 and 30 somethings of both genders. They sort of know each other, and there’s a crazy one, a driven one, a hot one, a voice of reason, all the necessary characters. Right now it’s on Tuesdays at 10pm (let’s be honest, I usually just watch last week’s episode that re-runs earlier in the night cause 10pm is my bedtime).NewAtlanta

Super Fun Night: This is one that Carrie turned me onto! I was a little skeptical at first because the commercials weren’t very promising, but it’s actually pretty cute and funny. I think the Rebel Wilson (from Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect), puts on kind of a forced American accent, but she’s a funny gal. There’s a cute boy and all the typical rom-com, sit-com type plots, it’s basically right up my alley. Watch for it on Wednesdays on ABC.Super Fun Night

Sean Saves the World: The return of Jack from Will and Grace! I like Sean Hayes, and even though I think he’s a little type cast these days, he’s pretty hilarious. He’s definitely less flamboyant and crazy in this show, but really funny. I think the writing is smart and funny. It’s supposed to be contributing to the return of Must See TV on Thursday nights on NBC. While I like this one, I’m a little luke warm on the other shows in the lineup, I try to catch this one!sean-saves-world

And the other not so new shows I’m watching are of course: Hart of Dixie, The Mindy Project, and I’m getting ready for new episodes of Girl Code on MTV! Also a new season of Top Chef just started, and I usually wait a few weeks so there are fewer contestants, and that way it’s not as lengthy of an emotional roller coaster for me!

I’m obviously having a really busy fall…

How are you passing your weeknights?

Five Things

I’ve been watching on the tube this summer.

1. Catfish on MTV. It’s a little formulaic and repetitive, but it totally sucks me in. I always need to wait until at least the first reveal when you see if the “catfish” is really the person in their photos. Plus, Nev and Max are pretty cute.

2.  Newlyweds: the First Year on Bravo. Bravo is really good at sucking me in. This show follows a few couples throughout their entire first year of marriage documentary style. Each of the couples are a little unique and they have issues that cover the spectrum of couple issues from how much sex they’re having, to trust issues, to in-law issues, to communication issues. At first, I wasn’t too excited about any of the couples, they they’ve all grown on me and now I can’t pick a favorite.

3. The Pioneer Woman on The Food Network. Now that Paula is out, I’m ready to see Ree Drummond step up in a big way. She’s got some big shoes to fill, but I think if she loosens up a pinch, she can do it.

4. Gilmore Girls in syndication on ABCFam. If I’m near a TV at 11am on weekdays, this is a must.

5. Girl Code on MTV. This show is hilarious. I highly recommend it. It’s basically just a bunch of new (and unknown to me) comedians commenting on common girl issues in various situations. It’s reminiscent of “I Love the 80’s” on VH1 for me, because I usually relate to a lot of it.girlcode
