Five Things

I will miss about my grad school after I graduate.

5. The pleasant weather and quaint atmosphere of Williamsburg, VA.  While Williamsburg is certainly lacking some key things like a good mall, or any form of entertainment besides bars and bowling, I will miss it. The Winters are definitely more mild, and the Fall and Spring are filled with beautiful days. I’ll miss my Friday errands in town running around to the little businesses.

4. The Breaks. This is a no brainer because I’ll never get a month off for Winter break or a random week off in the Spring to just relax.  I hate planning out PTO days.

3. The Business Casual Dress Code. I actually complained about having to dress nicely for school (basically just no casual jeans or sweats), but I’ll probably have to dress even nicer for my real life job. So I’m going to miss my colorful business casual outfits when I’m stuck with dress pants and heels…

2. The Daily School Schedule. I definitely had my fill of busy weeks with lots of meetings, but the level of freedom that comes with only about three hours of class everyday is nice.  But I won’t miss the homework, that’s for sure.

1. The People.  Duh. I will miss all the great friends I’ve made over the course of two years.  I’m really going to do my best to keep in touch!

Knead: A Bakery in the Mission District of San Francisco

While watching the Cooking Channel, I saw Knead bakery, found in the Mission District, being featured as the place to go when you are in San Francisco. While Karla and I were there, I made sure that we went there for a fabulous brunch. It was just a short bus ride away from Fisherman’s Wharf. The Mission District is full of culture and plenty of interesting sights to see. Check out this mural. Just one of many found on building walls.IMG_1234
Knead was tucked away on a side street surrounded by a world of culture.

This eatery is a place your order at the counter and they will bring it to your table sort of place, which creates a perfectly relaxed atmosphere for diners. Karla and I both had the spinach and eggs on brioche, which was out of this world.

Then of course, I had to have the Pomme d’amore which was the main feature on the Cooking Channel episode that I watched. I was not a disappointment at all! The crispy pastry crust created a pillow in which the egg custard filling could nest. The top of the custard was protected by a thin layer of crispy sugar which was texturally delightful with each bite. This place is a must when you are in San Francisco!IMG_1237

Retro Find at the Paisley Parasol

Today, I went shopping at Macy’s and found so many bargains. I can’t tell you how much I love their One Day Sale. I found the perfect dress to wear to my beau’s 30th birthday bash next weekend. I would like to give a shout-out to my personal shopper, my mom, for helping me find the perfect ensemble for me to wear.

On our way home from the mall, we stopped at this store called the Paisley Parasol. The owner was incredibly warm and welcoming. She personally invites all of her customers to come in and browse around. Little did I know when I walked in there that I would be walking away with this new Retro kitchen cabinet. It was a steal at $299 and free delivery. She has amazing prices that you just can’t pass up!

It fits perfectly in my dining area and I plan on using it as a small buffet table when I have a crowd of guests over for a party. Who knows what parties I will be holding in the future but I sure look forward to using this new piece. In the meantime, I am going to fill it up with some of my favorite things to put on display for everyone to see. I’ll show you the finished display when it is completed!
