Sometimes Sandra Lee Makes Sense

When it comes to baked goods, I love to make them myself from scratch.  I think it’s healthier than store bought, and it’s nice to know all of the ingredients that are in your food.  Plus they usually taste better (usually…).  Even though this is my goal, it doesn’t always happen like that.  One thing that I actually have never made from scratch is brownies.  I’m on the Sandra Lee’s Semi-Homemade team for these.

I blame it on my childhood.  My mother who actually has a degree from the New York Restaurant School, never makes brownies from scratch (shhhh, don’t tell anybody).  She claims that brownies are just a little too much extra effort from scratch, and the box mixes come pretty close.  So brownies from a box it is!

My mom has always sworn by this kind:

I made a batch recently and to add a little extra something, I softened some peanut butter and added it on top before I put it into the oven.

So pretty.

PS- While we’re on the topic of Food Network people, I recently caught an episode of Jeff Mauro’s new show.  He was the winner of last season’s Next Food Network Star.  Hilarious.  Give him a try, especially if you like sandwiches because that’s his thing.

Dinner and a Movie

While on a visit to Lauren’s (the only friend I’ve known for almost my entire life) house, we decided to go to the Movie Tavern. What a great concept! Why not tackle two birds with one stone if you have the chance. Here’s a list of the reasons why you should try it of you ever see one.
1. It’s the same price as a regular movie.
2. You can order anything from sliders to a sundae.
3. You can have a cocktail or a cold beer.
4. The seats are made of pleather and enormous.
5. There is plenty of leg room because the waiters need to be able to walk through the aisles.

I’d also like to give a nod to This Means War. It was about the last movie I would normally choose to go to but it was the best option playing at the time. It was surprisingly witty and entertaining. Chelsea Handler played a huge part of giving the movie a comedic edge. So head on down to the Movie Tavern and sling one back for Chelsea.

Favorite Things

I work out everyday so sometimes I get more excited about workout clothes shopping then regular clothes shopping.  Nothing motivates me to workout like some cute gear.  Some of my latest (tested and approved) faves:

Super comfortable, great fabric, and don’t have to adjust them at all while I’m working out, I love that.  I have them in black, and it’s my mom’s birthday tomorrow, guess what she’s getting…  They’re from Athleta.

Softest Shirt Ever!  It’s Under Amour‘s Charged Cotton.

This Sports Bra is for serious workouts.  It’s from Under Armour too!

I love a fun pattern, and Nike has some great variations on this classic bra.

Super Comfy, great fabric, great basic!  Nike knows what’s up.

Aren’t these cute?  I just bought them, I’m a sucker for cute New Balance kicks!

I stick to basics for working out because I hate having stuff that has 7 different trendy straps pulling everywhere, or colors that require coordination.  And I love me some Target workout gear, but to be perfectly honest, I workout so often that I’m coming to the realization that I need to wear real workout clothes for the occasion.  Whether I like it or not, I’ve realized a $50 pair of spandex capris have a much longer life cycle than the $15 ones at Target.  And I still love all my gear left over from high school and college sports, but I’ve learned that my weight room shirt from 8 years ago will not smell like anything other than 8 years of sweat no matter how many times I wash it (which is sad because it’s got the whole worn-in retro thing going on now).  Plus who doesn’t love another reason to shop!
