songs I downloaded on iTunes (girly edition).

1. “Bobblehead” by Christina Aguilera. I think this is a little bit of a throw back. I heard part of it on this youtube video and I looked it up. It definitely has a gimmicky sound that could be annoying to some, but I like having a little variety in the mix.

2. “The Wire” by HAIM. So this was a song I saw on VH1 about a month ago (does anyone still watch VH1 anymore?). And then I heard it again the other day and decided I needed more of it in my life. Usually I find songs like this boring, but HAIM got me on this one (and the video is kind of funny too).

3. “Don’t Save Me” by HAIM. This is proof that I’m hooked on HAIM. After I downloaded “The Wire, ” I decided I needed this one too. And I was right. I’m sure I’m late to the party on this band, but if it’s not on my Top 40 radio station, I don’t know it.

4. “Picking up the Pieces” by Paloma Faith. Another VH1 discovery. I guess someone has to watch Top 20 Countdown on the weekend. I saw the video while I was at the gym which means I saw it without the sound. And it was so random and strange I had to look it up. I was glad that I did.

5. “Really Don’t Care” by Demi Lovato feat. Cher Lloyd. This discovery is by way of Pandora. It came up on my One Direction station and I had to have it. It’s a great workout song, and I find it energizing during a busy day.

Songs I’ve downloaded on iTunes.

1. Rich Girl$ by Down With Webster. This song covers the classic “Rich Girl” by Hall and Oates for the chorus. It’s a little bit of a cheesy rap song, but I like how puts a new spin on a classic. It’s a fun, poppy rap song. This is not a new one, but I just discovered it thanks to a suggestion from iTunes.

2. Take Me Home by Cash Cash feat. Bebe Rexha. I got hooked on this song at the gym. It’s been in the mix of my favorite spin class the last couple weeks. I’m a little confused with the message of the lyrics, but it’s a great workout song to get you blood flowing.

3. The Man by Aloe Blacc. I feel like this is the male version of Roar by Katy Perry, except a lot more chill. It’s basically just a string of quasi-motivational statements strung together as lyrics, but there’s something appealing about it. Even though it’s slower, it could definitely work as a gym song I think.

4. Talk Dirty by Jason Derulo feat. 2 Chainz. Another song poached from spin class. I’ve been listening to the sample of this song in iTunes for a few weeks, then I heard it in spin class, which confirmed to me that it was a keeper. Definitely on the explicit side (a different side of Mr. Derulo), but it has some unique melodies in it.

5. Team by Lorde. I’m not sure why I like this one, but I do. My jury is still out on Lorde, but I’m staying tuned for the moment. My favorite lyrics: “I’m kind of over getting told to put my hands up in the air, so there.”

My Favorite Holiday

February is such a great month (despite the questionable weather) because I love Valentine’s day, and I love President’s Day even more! And this year they are both combined into one long weekend! What is better than celebrating TJ with chocolate, hearts, and flowers?

TJ

Lately I’ve been in a broadway mood, so of course they best way to celebrate President’s Day in my mind is to listen to the 1776 soundtrack! I saw 1776 on broadway in the 1990’s and it has always been one of my favorites (I wonder why).  If you didn’t have the chance to see it on Broadway, there’s always the movie version with Mr. Feeney playing John Adams, it’s a classic!

1776

TJ is always my number one, but John Adams really steals the show in this one. To get in the presidential mood today, I would highly recommend checking out some Youtube clips of the movie or recordings of the stage productions. I would go with this one, this one, and this one. Unfortunately the best productions happened pre-Youtube, so the quality and availability isn’t optimal, but fingers crossed they’ll revive on Broadway again soon!

Speaking of Broadway…Did you hear that Carly Rae Jepsen took over for Laura Osnes as Cinderella in Cinderella? I saw it almost exactly a year ago. I’m curious to hear how she does. She’s obviously a singer, but I wonder if she has Broadway worthy pipes…
