Five Things

I am loving right now.

  1. My Anne Taintor 2016 wall calendar. I’ve gotten it either for myself or from Santa for probably close to 10 years now. I love it every year. It never disappoints!Sadie Dishes- Anne Taintor Calendar
  2. The fact that the holidays are over, even though I love the holidays. My apartment is so clean right now! This year I sent out about 50 cards, I sent probably 5-7 boxes of gifts or goodies, and I baked about 15 batches of baked goods in December. It’s time for a break!
  3. But back to Santa for a minute- he got me a new fancy iron! It’s called the Pro Master, I rest my case. Being the laundry enthusiast that I am, I was very excited about this present. I would have to say, one of my pet peeves is a perfectly good outfit ruined by wrinkles! Stepping up my ironing game in 2016.Sadie Dishes- Rowena Iron
  4. The faux fur cold weather accessory trend got me. I bought a faux fur scarf on super sale at the Loft during the holidays. The discount really helped me make the leap, but I don’t hate it! It definitely adds glamour to my commute! Some of the faux fur styles are more functional than others, but I think it’s a easy way to participate in a fun trend and experience the luxury of looking like you’re wearing fur! (I’m seriously contemplating getting a faux fur scarf for my grandmother in Long Island because I think it will help her get through winter with a smile on her face!)Sadie Dishes- Loft Scarf
  5. The Royals on E! has completely sucked me in this season. I always skew trashy when it comes to television shows and this is a good example. For those in the dark, The Royals is a drama about a fictional version of the British Royal family. There are all manner of relationships and affairs happening, several murders, and more drugs and alcohol than you can shake a stick at. Even though it’s totally ridiculous, it always makes me wonder what similarities exist between the show and the real royal family. It’s a good binge watch if there’s a snow day or two this winter!Sadie Dishes- The Royals

On Demand Guilty Pleasures

Since the summer is always kind of a snooze when it comes to TV, I’ve learned to take advantage of Xfinity’s On Demand feature. I started by catching up on episodes of The Goodwife that I missed. Once I got the hang of it, I found some new favorites.

Veep

veep

I always thought I would like VEEP because I loved The West Wing, and it’s a lighter, funnier version of that. I was right. There are sometimes when the episodes get a little too into crazy sitcom style scenarios, but everyone on the show is really funny!

Younger

younger

My friend Carrie recommended this to me, and I’m glad she did. It was on TVLand but I rarely remembered to catch it during the week. It’s about a newly divorced 40 something who needs to get back in the work force. After some failed attempts she decides that to get a job at a publishing house, her best bet is to pose as a 20 something. She inhabits the life of a 20 something by hanging out with her co-workers and dating a much younger man, and she walks the line between the generations. The show is really funny and it has some good commentary on how different generations see the same issues.

Kevin From Work

I saw an ad for this one on ABC Family, and I thought I would give it a try. It is really cute! It’s a workplace sitcom that’s younger and fresher than something like The Office (and probably not as smart). Kevin is the guy next door who is hard worker with good intentions. He is in love with his cubical neighbor, and he has a lot of colorful friends, co-workers, and a crazy sister. Not rocket science, but entertaining.

Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll

sexdrugsrockroll

This is Denis Leary’s latest show, and John Corbett is in it too! I loved Rescue Me, I loved Sex and the City, thus, I shall love this show. Denis Leary plays a washed up lead singer of an old 80’s hair band, and John Corbett is the lead guitarist. Leary’s long lost daughter shows up out of nowhere with aspirations of starting her own singing career by capitalizing off of some of Leary’s distant industry connections and song writing talent. It’s a similar type of humor to Rescue Me, but more rock & roll than firefighter. Not quite to the depth of Rescue Me, but I’m hooked!

What TV have you gotten hooked on this summer?

Golden Globes Best and Worst

Awards season 2015: here we go!

First of all, I have not seen too many movies this year for whatever reason, but I did see The Imitation Game on Christmas day and it is the best. I think it should win every award from now on! I am a full fledged Cumberbitch now!

Now lets talk about clothes. There was a lot of white on the red carpet, and a lot of rather simple dresses. Lots of glamorous mermaid and column silhouettes rather than more fashion forward unique choices. It seemed relatively understated overall, but very elegant. A lot of pretty and sexy dresses, but not many statement fashion pieces. A good steady start to Awards season.

I borrowed all of the images from People.com.

My Best:

Amy Adams

Amy Adams: At first I thought this was a little boring, but frankly it’s quite impeccable. Usually she chooses a bolder color, so I was surprised she went for a pastel blue. The draping and the fit couldn’t be better. If it wasn’t perfect I think it would fall in the realm of bridesmaid dress, but Amy did it right!

Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain: She always cracks me up because she seems like such a sweet, understated person during the red carpet interviews, but she really serves up the drama with her dress every single time. Not a groundbreaking silhouette but it’s definitely working for her and I love a metallic!

Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick: Anna is a Kate Spade spokesperson, and this gown seems very Kate Spade-ish to me so it makes sense. I like that it’s classic but has some interest with the beading. It works very well for her.

Reese

Reese Witherspoon: This is very plain but I think it’s just done very well. There were several stars that did similar looks, but the metallic kicks it up a notch. I don’t know that Reese is usually this sparkly so I was happy to see her amp it up a little. (The one thing that would have pushed it up one more notch would be some big sapphire statement pieces to add some interest)

My Worst:

Rosamund Pike

Rosamund Pike: The concept of the dress is not terrible. I find it ill-fitting and very unflattering on her. It seems like the straps are two inches too long.

Amanda Peet

Amanda Peet: She usually leans towards a retro look (somewhere from 1920’s-1940’s), so this dress does not surprise me for her. I wish it was a little less blah. If the waist was defined with a wide band and it bloused out a little above the natural waist, it might be a little more flattering. With a little nip and a tuck it would be so much better, it’s just too much blousey material.

Taylor Schilling

Taylor Schilling: The dress is not a bad dress, but the whole look seems way too severe and she does not look her best. I think it’s the middle part, strong eye brows, and red lips. It’s a little much.

George Clooney, Amal Clooney

Amal Clooney: Could this be more of a snooze? I think she was trying to be subtle so she wouldn’t steal George’s thunder, but I was very disappointed.

What are your thoughts? Who were your best and worst?
