Downton Abbey

Today marks the one year anniversary of our blog.  I would like to give a shout out to my BFF, Sadie, for being the inspiration behind this blog.  We discussed the possibility of a blog over a lovely brunch at the Blue Pig at Congress Hall in Cape May.  Soon after, we made that possibility a reality and I think we are much better for it.  I enjoy putting my thoughts and recipes out there to anyone who wants to read them.

On that note, here’s another one of my thoughts.  If you have not yet discovered the phenomenon called Downton Abbey, you must indulge yourself and give it a try.  I know that once you are introduced to the inner workings of the upstairs downstairs relationships of Downton Abbey, you will become enamored with everything the estate has to offer.  Its mystique and charm entices you to want more and more.  You won’t be able to stop watching.  I went to my local library to get season 1 and 2 on DVD.  Season 3 is currently being featured on Masterpiece Classic on PBS.  It airs on Sundays at 9.  I only wish I could be Mary and find my Matthew to make my life complete.

Ian Somerhalder, Currently Heating up Mystic Falls

This blog entry is at the request of my dear friend, Karla.  We share a lot of things in common but one of them is our love for Ian Somerhalder.  We first discovered his twinkling eyes and stunning sex appeal on a short-run show called Young Americans.  In 2000, Young Americans began as a summer spin-off of Dawson’s Creek.  The young and inexperienced cast also included Kate Bosworth.  Sadly, the series only lasted 8 episodes, but it made a lasting impression on me.  Its where I first fell in love with Mr. Somerhalder.

He made a few more significant appearances in Life as a House, The Rules of Attraction, Wake and Lost.  But now he has finally hit his stride in The Vampire Diaries.  He plays the insatiably handsome vampire, Damon Salvatore.  He plays the ultimate bad boy who falls in love with a human girl who makes him want to change his bad boy ways.  We all love this romantic plot line, but let’s face it ladies…in reality, no one can change a man but himself.  We all like to dream and The Vampire Diaries let’s us carry out that fantasy.  So tune in every Thursday on the CW at 8.  Here’s a little preview for you.

I used to primarily crush on the five members of *NSYNC.  I memorized their favorite colors and their birthdays, and I probably still know them by heart.  If it wasn’t *NSYNC it was another pop star or professional athlete.  Now the times are changing, and I’m changing with them.  Chefs are the new celebrities and I’ve got my eye on a few.  My culinary equivalent to *NSYNC is:

1. Tyler Florence

2. Tom Colicchio

3. Michael Symon

4. Fabio Viviani

5. Dale Talde

I know that they are lacking the creative hairstyles of the boy bands of the past.  But these guys can cook!  And they’re really funny!  It’s a good thing I’m back in school because I have some new names to start doodling in my notebook…
